Cost per slot-kilometre is the honest way to compare freight vehicles. It folds diesel, the driver, maintenance, tolls, terminal fees and handling into one figure, divided by the pallet slots on offer. Lower is better. Each class is measured at a distance it would realistically run, since comparing a van and a road train over the same leg tells you nothing.
The figures assume diesel at $1.45 a kilo — about $1.20 a litre of commercial diesel — and carbon at $35 a tonne of CO₂. Market prices move, but the ranking between trucks does not.
Speed is cruise speed and weight is gross combination weight, as on the road. Inside the game the schedule runs on clock hours, and the drivers'-hours rules are baked into the timetable: a rig that cruises at 85 km/h covers about 32 km per clock hour once rest periods are counted — 765 km a day, exactly what a real single-crewed long-haul truck manages.

These carry no pallets at all — they carry tonnage, and the figure below is per tonne-kilometre. Bulk on the road is short-legged by nature: gravel, grain and fuel move from pit, silo and depot to wherever they are needed, and nobody hauls gravel a thousand kilometres.

The biggest rigs dominate the top. Spreading one driver and one engine over seventy pallets is simply more efficient than doing it over thirty-three — provided you can fill them, and provided the road lets you in. Weight limits are the catch: a 76-tonne HCT rig is legal in Finland and Sweden, nowhere else.
Vans sit last, and that is not a mistake. Small vehicles win on trip cost, not slot cost. On a thin 200 km lane, a cheap van that breaks even beats an artic running a tenth full. This table ranks efficiency at scale; it does not tell you which vehicle suits a thin market.
The American trucks read differently. They cruise faster (105 km/h interstates), carry fewer pallets (the federal 36.3-tonne limit) and drink more doing it. On their own network that trade is fine; imported into Europe it is not, and the game's weight limits enforce exactly that.
Older models are marked in the fleet list in-game. The gap between a 1994 tractor and a new one is real: it comes from engine efficiency and aerodynamics, not from a penalty the game applies to make old trucks unattractive.
